Coaches & Instructors

Canoe Kayak Saskatchewan is a part of two National Associations:  Canoe Kayak Canada and Paddle Canada.

Each organization has their own coaching/instructor pathway. Canoe Kayak Saskatchewan recognizes both certification programs and helps to organize coaching/instructor clinics and training annually for our member clubs.

Paddle Canada – Recreational Programming & has own certification program/pathway

Canoe Kayak Canada – Competitive Programs & uses National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP)

About the Programs:

Paddle Canada

A not-for-profit organization founded in 1971, and incorporated in 1972, Paddle Canada is the national association for recreational paddling in Canada.

Setting standards for instruction and certification for recreational canoeing, kayaking and stand up paddling, Paddle Canada certifications are nationally accredited and internationally recognized. Each year, approximately 2500 certified instructors deliver sanctioned courses to more than 15,000 paddlers across Canada.

Canoe Kayak Canada

Canoe Kayak Canada is the national body for competitive paddling in Canada. Canoe Kayak Canada is a member-based organization which includes an intricate network of clubs as well as provincial and divisional paddling associations for the disciplines of sprint, whitewater and marathon. Elite National Teams proudly represent Canoe Kayak Canada at various competitions around the globe – most notably the Olympic Games, Pan American Games, ICF World Cups as well as Junior, Under 23 and Senior World Championships.

Canoe Kayak Canada is recognized by its partners at the International Canoe Federation, the Canadian Olympic Committee, the Canadian Paralympic Committee and Sport Canada as the designated authority for the sport in Canada.

CKC uses the National Coaching Certification Program to set coaching standards.

NCCP

The National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) provides standardized, inclusive, and safe sport education to coaches and coach developers.

The Coaching Association of Canada (CAC) manages and delivers NCCP training through its partner network of 65 National Sport Organizations and Provincial/Territorial Sport Organizations.

NCCP courses are recognized through the Indigenous Coaching Officials Program.  The Indigenous Coaches and Officials Program facilitates training and developmental opportunities across the province for Indigenous peoples to become involved in sport as a coach or an official.
