Marathon

Marathon canoe/kayak is a long-distance endurance sport which varies in length from 10km to multi-day races. It can be done in the wilderness or urban locations using any variety of waterways including rivers, lakes and canals. Portaging is often included in routes.

Marathon races emphasize endurance and strategy. Paddlers must demonstrate both stamina and tactical skill, navigating through varying water conditions, making quick decisions on when to push for speed and when to conserve energy. The sport can be done individually or in teams.

Marathon paddling is raced at the Tony Cote Summer Games and the North American Indigenous Games.
