Course Description:
Coaches will learn the foundational paddling literacy stroke, with an emphasis on the three paddling elements that underpin efficient technique – posture, balance and propulsion. Coaches will also learn how to effectively plan practices focused on building endurance according to various energy systems. Coaches will explore the concepts of training, preparation, and paddling safety. The course includes an overview of technique for traditional marathon canoe paddling and will also touch upon technical components of kayaking if there is interest from individual participants.

Course Topics:

• Paddling skills & techniques
• Supporting athletes in training
• Implementing an appropriate structured/organized practice
• Analyzing performance, identify technical progressions, providing feedback
• Basic paddle and boat maintenance

Minimum requirements:

• At least 16 years of age
• Previous canoe experience
• Interested in developing leadership/coaching skills and are working towards completing the following NCCP Modules:
  • Making Ethical Decisions
  • Planning a Practice
  • Teaching & Learning
  • Nutrition
