This past weekend Canoe Kayak Canada hosted their second set of National Team Trials in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. We would like to congratulate all the athletes who attended and competed to the best of their ability. We had representation from athletes in both Regina and Saskatoon with a number of athletes finding personal bests and learning experiences out on the race course.
We would like to extend additional congratulations to Jarret Kenke, 23, of the Saskatoon Racing Canoe Club and Collin Rieger, 17, of the Wascana Racing Canoe Club as they have been named nominated to represent Canada on the International stage this summer.
Jarret Kenke, 23, of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, partnered with Marshall Hughes of Waverley, Nova Scotia, to win the Senior men’s K-2 1000m event at the trials. From his combined performances at the first and second set of trials in 2017 he has been nominated to represent Canada at both the Senior World Championships and the Under 23 World Championships. Jarret will attend the U23 World Championships in Romania looking to improve on performances from his races at this event in 2016. He will then attend his first ever Senior World Championships event in Racice, Czech Republic.
Colin Rieger, 17, of Regina, Saskatchewan placed 4th in the junior men’s K-1 500 meter event and has been selected to race in the two and four person events at his first ever Junior World Championships. Colin has dreamed of wearing the Maple Leaf and is very excited for the opportunity to represent his country for the first time on the International stage. Colin will also be racing at the annual Wascana Racing Canoe Club, Canada Day regatta this coming weekend on Wascana Lake.
