Sask Sport Inc. Announces the June
Athlete of the Month Award Recipient
Maximus Litzenberger of Saskatoon is the recipient of the Sask Sport Inc. June Athlete of the Month Award. He was nominated by Judo Saskatchewan.
Litzenberger won a gold medal at the Canada Cup – Pan America Judo Competition in Montreal, QC. This competition featured 400 athletes from 20 countries. Due to his success, Litzenberger earned a G level standard which qualifies him to compete at international events as part of the Judo Canada Team.
The other outstanding nominees were:
- Bailey Hargreaves, Saskatoon, Synchro – placed eighth at the Espoir Nationals Duet Meet and competed at the National Team Trails, where she was named to the National Team. She is the first 13-15 aged Saskatchewan athlete to qualify for the National Team in several years.
- Daniel McCullough, Saskatoon, Canoe Kayak – finished seventh in the Junior K1 500m, 12th in the Junior K1 1,000m, 15th in the Junior K1 200m, and third in the Junior K2 1,000m at the National Team Trials #3. He is now ranked third in 16-and-under male kayakers in Canada and was named to the Canadian Junior National Team.
- Courtney Hufsmith, Saskatoon, Athletics – finished 23rd and set a personal best at the PTF High Performance Track Meet in Portland, OR. She also finished first at the Stumptown Twilight in Portland and set a Saskatchewan Athletics record; and placed second at the Harry Jerome International Track Meet in Burnaby, BC, where she broke the record again.
- Aaron Higgins, Regina, Special Olympics – set person best lifts in four out of five events at the Trench Open and currently holds all (squat, bench press, dead lift and total lift) of the SPA Special Olympics provincial records for both the 93 kg and 105 kg weight classes.
