The CanMas Championship will be held on September 1, 2019 on Lake Wascana. We are looking forward to a fun and exciting day of racing on lake Wascana to round off the National Championships week in Regina. NATIONALS GENERAL INFORMATION For event updates about the 2019 Canoe Kayak Canada Sprint National Championships, hosted by Wascana Racing Canoe Club in Regina, SK from August 27-31, and CanMas taking place on September 1, please visit: https://sprintnationals.canoekayak.ca/ This email contains key updates for CanMas 2019 including: CanMas Rules Safety Release Agreement Waiver Order of Events Entries Entry Fees CanMas Dinner and Special Events Thank you for taking the time to read through this update, please contact me with any questions. CanMas Rules The CanMas Rules for 2019 can be accessed here. Please note these key changes from 2018: 1- Doubles Events will be run as 10-year age categories, vs the 5-year categories used in recent years. This change was made to increase the competitive level in these events. 2- Singles 500m events have been added in the morning of CanMas. The intention is that each athlete will be able to race one 500m K1 or C1. These races will be close together and accommodating multiple races will be difficult, please plan entries accordingly. 3- Because the 500m singles have been added the race limit has been increased to 6 events + 1 additional mixed war canoe + 1 additional same sex war canoe (Men’s or Women’s).  This competition is open to all U14 athletes and any NEW paddler (any age).   — Do you have some parents that can volunteer?? Please have them contact me – they will be able to watch their kids race! — Want to make a camping trip out of it? YCKC is located at York Lake Regional Park (about 500m away)!  You can camp on our site or at the actual campground. — Are there any major allergies??  We will have a canteen onsite.  If you will be providing your own food to your athletes please let me know so we don’t buy as much. Entries due August 14th at latest please!  Changes can be made if we absolutely need but it would be great to have it done early so parents can plan. Saskatchewan Marathon Canoe Athletes Win June Athlete of the Month Award

Mike Vincent of Regina and Ivan English of Saskatoon are the recipients of the Sask Sport Inc. June Athlete of the Month Award. They were nominated by Canoe Kayak Saskatchewan. The duo won the Yukon River Quest which featured 21 participants from five countries. This competition was a mens tandem marathon canoe race from Whitehorse to Dawson City, Yukon at a distance of 715 km. Athletes aged 12 to 18 competed in Marathon Canoeing in sprint and long distance events. In overall Marathon Canoeing points, Woodland placed First, Prince Albert Grand Council placed second, and third went to (tie) Battlefords Agency Tribal Chiefs and Touchwood Agency Tribal Council. Western Canada Summer Games Saskatchewan Canoe and Kayak Team Announced

The Excellence Committee has approved the WCSG Coaching Team’s nominations for Saskatchewan’s athletes for the WCSGs team. Both provincial coaches have had an opportunity to react to and provide input. With the additional three nominations, the team is comprised of 19 athletes.  With these nominations, the intentions is to race singles and team boats in each of the 4 gender/disciplines.   The three additions to the original list of nominations are Megan Black (women’s canoe), Zoe Mortin (women’s kayak – will also race women’s canoe team boats) and Ezekiel Topping (Men’s Kayak).  Ezekiel will add depth to our men’s kayak team, in particular team boats.  Learn more at...

Saskatoon Canoe Club Marathon Division Athletes at General Clinton Canoe Regatta

Cooperstown General Clinton Canoe Regatta History In 1963, 2 canoes made a pilot trip down the Susquehanna River from Cooperstown to Bainbridge. This voyage took 18 hours and 25 minutes. The first race was held July 4th, 1963 and had 45 entries. Winners finished in 11 hours 45 minutes. Today, the race record is 6 hours 34 minutes, 34 seconds. The Regatta has grown from the one day event to 4 days of canoe races plus many other events; a 5k run, wrestling tournament, carnival rides, entertainment, food, fireworks and more. There are canoe races for young and old, newbies to pros. The General Clinton Canoe Regatta brings racers and spectators from all over the US, Canada, Europe and South America to paddle in this premier canoe racing event. The beautiful upper Susquehanna River valley plays host to this event every Memorial Day weekend and as the event founders hoped does bring visitors to our historical area. On May 10, Russell Lawrence was successfully voted to be our Whitewater Director with Canoe Kayak Saskatchewan. Russell will represent the Whitewater Discipline and will perform his volunteer role for a one year term. Regina Marathon Canoe Club Programming Begins!

Lumsden Marathon Canoe Race Regina Marathon Canoe Club has begun weekday programming for Learn to Paddle, Learn to Stern and Advanced Paddling Clinics. Clinics are hosted at Wascana Lake and Wascana Creek. On Saturdays, paddlers converge at the Merv Woods Boathouse located in Lumsden at Qu’Appelle River. Paddlers embark on a Qu’Appelle River Quest that is focused on specific technique or distance development.
