Canada Summer Games Trials Information

                                      Event Information This competition will be used to determine nominations for membership on the 2017 Canada Summer Games Canoe/Kayak Team. The date of the trials is Saturday June 17th, 2017. Races will begin at 9 am. The venue will be Wascana Lake in Regina.   Competition Specifics The format will include individual starts for the 200m, 500m and 1000m races. Based on the results of the individual starts, the fastest nine athletes will be seeded into a 9-boat final.   If there are 9 or less athletes entered in these events, there will be no individual starts and the event will go straight to a final. The nominations to the team will be based on Canoe Kayak Saskatchewan’s, Canada Summer Games Selection Criteria.  The criteria can be found here.  The competition is open to all athletes registered with a recognized sprint member club whose permanent residence has been in Saskatchewan for at least 180 days prior to the trials (December 19, 2016) and who will be under 21 years of age as of January 1st, 2017 (birth year 1996 or later). To be eligible to compete, all entrants must be a member in good standing with their club and with Canoe Kayak Saskatchewan. Paddling Literacy Program Development Opportunity

We are hiring for a short-term contract, to develop a paddling literacy program for our provincial and member club programs. The goal of the program will be to provide a comprehensive and holistic paddling program which teaches participants water safety and fundamental skills for paddling any type of boat. The program will provide a background on fundamental elements that every participant should learn, lesson plans for a 5-day camp environment, skill break down/explanations as well as drills to encourage the learning process, coach to athlete ratios. In addition to the priorities mentioned, a tie back to the long-term athlete development model and fundamental skills that should be developed by all youth are a priority. The ideal candidate will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, a willingness to reach out and ask questions, experience in multiple types of paddling, able to accomplish tasks without direct supervision. Coaching certifications and program and or project development experience are considered an asset. The successful candidate will be a self-starter with an ability to demonstrate their experience completing a task, of this nature, within a designated time frame. The successful candidate with produce the following products by the end of the six-week project: 1. A description of the Paddling Literacy Program based on research of similar programs and the CKC LTAD model and the basic elements that each paddler will learn by the end of the instructional period (camp); 2.
