Cold, flat, treeless, and boring? I know you are, but what am I?

Canoe Kayak Saskatchewan is always excited to hear the stories and memories of our community. Kevin Miller is a former resident of Saskatchewan who has penned a novel about the adventures that can be found on the water here in Saskatchewan. We wanted to share this story and have asked him to share a little about himself and how this story came to be with you all. Enjoy!   By: Kevin Miller As a Saskatchewan native who has lived elsewhere for most of my adult life, one thing has become abundantly clear: People across Canada have a rather impoverished appreciation of that province’s charms, particularly its geography. When I tell folks where I’m from, the typical response I get is something like, “Bet you’re glad you don’t live there anymore. That place is so flat, cold, treeless, and boring.” I’ll be the first to admit Saskatchewan can be cold. However, I happen to consider that a plus. What’s better than stepping out your door on a sunny day in January, inhaling the frigid air, and feeling it coat everything in ice, from the hairs in your nostrils right down to the bottom of your lungs? As for the treeless part, that wasn’t my experience growing up on a farm just outside Foam Lake, SK. We had trees everywhere. In fact, I spent half of my childhood tramping through the bush. Flat? No one can dispute that. But since when is flat bad by definition? Tables are flat. So are floors, soccer fields, lakes, desks, skyscraper rooftops, tables, and the proverbial pancake. I don’t hear anyone complain about that. Boring?...
