Canoe Kayak Saskatchewan is the Provincial Sport Governing Body for canoe and kayak in Saskatchewan. Our goal is to encourage participation and develop excellence in the sport of canoe and kayak and to enable participants to realize personal excellence. Canoe Kayak Saskatchewan oversees the activities related to Sprint Racing (Flatwater), Marathon, Whitewater and Recreation (Paddle Canada) paddling. Our members consist of competitive athletes, novice and developing athletes, recreation paddlers and enthusiasts, coaches, officials and supporters.
The focus is centered on athletes participating in canoe-kayak programs targeted at the FUNdamentals, Learn to Train (L2T) and Active for Life (A4L) stages of the Long Term Athlete Development model, in the disciplines of sprint, slalom, marathon and canoe-polo. Athlete Development athletes must be registered members of CKS.
A coach is defined to be, at minimum, Paddle Canada Instructor certified, an NCCP entry level competitive coach (ELCC) trained or certified, Community Coach or be certified as a Canoe Kids coach.
The focus is centered on athletes participating in programs targeted at the Train to Train (T2T) and Train to Compete (T2C) stages of Long Term Athlete Development models in the disciplines of sprint and slalom. Excellence stream athletes must be registered members of a CKS club.
A coach is defined to be an individual, at minimum, certified as an NCI, NCCP Level III or be Competitive Development coach.
Coaches and Officials
The focus is to promote skill and resource development for coaches and officials in support of canoe-kayak excellence.
A coach directing a provincially recognized program will be a Paddle Canada Instructor, NCCP trained or certified, Community Coach or trained as a Canoe Kids Coach.
An official involved with a provincially recognized event will be, at minimum, Level I trained and/or certified. They will enforce the rules and regulations set out in a technical package or related practice specific to the canoe-kayak discipline.
Capacity and Interaction
The focus is to assist the Board in the development, review, monitoring and updating of CKS policies, procedures and management.
